Reels vs. regular posts: what is working best in 2026

One of the questions our clients ask us most is: should I focus on reels or keep posting regular photos? Based on managing hundreds of church and business accounts, this is what we are seeing.

Reels keep winning in reach

Platforms continue to prioritize short video to show it to people who do not yet follow your account. A well-made reel can reach many more new people than a photo, even with the same number of followers.

But regular posts retain your followers better

Photos and carousels work very well to strengthen the relationship with those who are already part of your community — they are easier to save, share by direct message and revisit.

What type of content works best for churches?

  • Reels of worship moments or short, inspiring messages
  • Behind the scenes of service preparation
  • Short video testimonials
  • Event announcements in carousel format

What type of content works best for businesses (restaurants, services)?

  • Reels showing the product or service in progress (food being prepared, a finished job)
  • Video customer testimonials
  • High-quality photos of the final product
  • Promotions and offers in static post format

The right strategy: combine both

It is not about abandoning traditional posts altogether, but about using each format for what it does best: reels to attract new people, posts and carousels to strengthen the relationship with those who already follow you.
